WELCOME
Welcome to South Dakota Insurance Guaranty Association (SDIGA) Web site. We hope that you find this site helpful in providing information regarding the purpose of SDIGA and how it protects South Dakota policyholders and claimants in the event of a property and casualty insurance company insolvency.
WHO ARE WE?
The SDIGA is a non-profit statutory entity created by the South Dakota Legislature in 1970 to help protect South Dakota policyholders and claimants from losses due to unpaid claims under policies issued by an insolvent insurance company. Virtually all insurers licensed to sell property, casualty and auto insurance in the state are required to be members of the SDIGA and pay assessments to fund the organization.
WHAT DO WE DO?
In the event that a member insurer is deemed insolvent and is ordered to be liquidated by a court, South Dakota law enables the SDIGA to provide protection up to the limits specified in the law to certain South Dakota-based policyholders and claimants who have outstanding claims against the insolvent insurer.
